She didn't suffer fools lightly, her presence commanded a room, her strength ,Humour, compassion, understanding and love weren't just traits they were the core of who she was, she lifted the heaviest of days, a compassion that made everyone around her feel seen, an understanding that made you feel safe to be yourself and a love that filled every corner of our life together. We lost our lovely mum back in 1988 she was only 55. There was very little k own about Scleroderma back then and I remember her being g so brave and stoic. Tried lots of experimental treatments and used to go to trainee doctors exams and end up whispering to them what she had. She fought so hard and is very much missed ❤️

She had systematic scleroderma sclerosis so we knew our time was limited but was not expecting so quickly and unexpectedly at that time. My mum developed scleroderma in her mid fifties.. nobody had heard of it! She travelled for many years from Leeds to Manchester for treatment, until Leeds were up to speed on treatment. She went through everything.. trialling every treatment offered, she never complained or moaned and loved life to the full , family being her number one priority and her number one inspiration. Scleroderma took her at the age of 76, she wasn’t ready to leave us but had suffered too much. Love u forever mum 💕xx

My beautiful mam

My mum was hospitalised in September 2019. Due to sepsis Few days later we found out she had scleroderma Never heard of it untill then She later passed away in October 2019. I still find it very hard to come to terms with loseing her but I now she pain free and danceing with the angels... She was a true fighter till the end 🤍💗

My Dad lived with Scleroderma for almost eight years, until his passing in 2016. He remained such a brave soul throughout his illness and took a keen interest in understanding the complexities of the condition. He was a real champion of patients and loved offering his insight to the trainee Practitioners, who always loved speaking with him. This awful disease took my beautiful wife on 11th August 2021, aged just 50. She was my soul mate, my life and the bravest, caring and loving wife and mum to our 4 boys. I miss her so much, my life will never be the same, until we meet again… My wife was only diagnosed in February with Systemic Sclerosis having suffered with Raynaud’s for over 20 years, most people have never heard of it, by the time we had the diagnosis it was too late. Everyone needs to be made aware of this awful disease.

If you have Scleroderma in the family please get tested to see if you have it so measures can be put in place early to help prevent the onset of effects, and allowing you to not die early like my lovely mum did. Although a doctor, I did not put together the pieces of the jigsaw which is scleroderma, because Gwen was my mother. The diagnosis explained so much. I loved our years together, and even during the months of terminal care at home, we had such fun! The pulmonary fibrosis was the worst and she said she was ready to go-that death would be an adventure. I hope it was. She can’t tell me now. The world has a hole in it.
